My Story

Isobel Quinn

Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

ThinkingLife Counselling

I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist working with people who are looking for a way to negotiate the tricky business of life.  Through ThinkingLife Counselling, I offer private and confidential counselling to both adults and young people. Working collaboratively with each client, I tailor the approach to suit the needs of every individual. I am also a COSCA accredited trainer of CBT.

Twenty years experience as a secondary school teacher in East Renfrewshire has provided me with a wealth of experience on the stresses and challenges faced by young people from 11 to 18yrs and I have extensive understanding of their school experience and the difficulties that some young people have around social as well as academic situations.

I work in the the city centre of Glasgow and East Renfrewshire and I have helped many people find the courage and determination to move towards the possibilities that change brings. So, if you would like to contact me to have a chat or arrange an appointment, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

I offer Cognitive Behavoural Therapy to individuals and groups.

What is Cognitive Behavoural Therapy?

CBT is an evidence based talking therapy based on the theory that our thoughts, feelings, actions and how our body feels are all connected. Sometimes we develop patterns in which we become stuck, but if we change one of these we can alter the others. CBT can help you to make sense of overwhelming problems by breaking them down into smaller parts. This makes it easier to see how they are connected and how they affect you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in a session?

Each session lasts for 50 minutes and during that time you and your therapist will look at your issues and plan how to meet them by setting goals. Working together you will devise ways of managing changes in your life. â€‹

When you have agreed what areas you want to focus on and what your goals are, you start planning the sessions and discuss how to deal with your issues. At the beginning of each session, you and the counsellor will  decide on the main areas you wish to work on that week. You will also be given time to discuss any issues from previous sessions.

CBT is a structured therapy which helps to use the therapeutic time efficiently. It also makes sure that important information is not missed out (the results of the homework, for instance) and that both you  have a chance to think about any new issues that follow on from the session.
